Primary Years Programme (PYP)
FLA was Authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to implement the Primary Years Programme in August 2019.
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 3 - 12 nurtures and develops young students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.
Through its inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, the PYP challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.
The PYP curriculum is created by the teachers at FLA. Using the Missouri Grade Level expectations, the teachers look for connections between the standards, the subjects and the transdisciplinary themes of the PYP. A PYP teacher, working in grade level teams, uses broad concepts to make these connections. This leads to the creation of UNITS OF INQUIRY. Each year of the PYP (K-5), the students will explore the six transdisciplinary themes (four in Kindergarten) through these units, taking the MO grade level expectations as the lens for this exploration. These units are compiled in a grade level or school wide "Programme of Inquiry". The links below on this page explore the various components of the PYP.
